PASTORAL CARE MINISTRIES

The primary focus of the Pastoral Care Ministry is to encourage and nurture the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of St. John’s community of believers. This is accomplished through various groups who provide support for our community in times of grief, pain or loneliness by intercessory prayer, visitations to the sick or dying, bringing communion to the home-bound and crisis and trauma care.

Daughters of the King is a religious order, founded in 1885, for women and girls. Members undertake a personal rule of life incorporating prayer and service, and pledge themselves to a lifelong program of prayer, service and personal evangelism. Our order of St. John’s meets once a month September through May. Each meeting begins with prayer. Various activities are planned to aid our prayer lives, including book studies, making Anglican rosaries, and providing items of need for the St. Francis Day Care Center in Tampa for children of migrant workers.

Diane Maltby, President

Eucharistic Visitors (EV) – Licensed Eucharistic Visitors take Holy Communion directly from the services to the sick and shut-in and work under the direction of the Priest in Charge and the Deacon. Pastorally, EV’s represent the church to those they visit by being living reminders that the sick and shut-in’s are integral parts of that community which is the Body of Christ. The circle of the faithful is opened to those people who cannot worship with their congregation at its main celebrations.

Faith in Action - An interfaith volunteer caregivers program which addresses the unique needs of parishioners, especially those under Hospice care. Volunteers compete a comprehensive Hospice training course which provides them with skills and caregiving capabilities to provide quality, compassionate care and support to persons in need.

Martha Wharton, Coordinator

Prayer Chain – The Prayer Chain is made up of dedicated parishioners who pray daily for members of the parish and their families who are in immediate need of prayer. There are currently 34 "pray-ers" dedicated to this ministry.

Nancy Hopkins, Coordinator

Prayer Chapel – The Prayer Chapel ministry provides an opportunity for anyone in the congregation to meet with prayer partners in the chapel right after their individual communion at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Special concerns might include illness, impending surgery, crisis situations, intercessions for family or friends and prayers of thanksgiving. Strict confidentiality of your concerns is maintained. The group meets three times a year for study, reflection and discussion. Currently there are 17 prayer partners in this group.

"…when he saw him, he had compassion."

The Samaritan Ministry –A lay ministry designed to assist the parish priest by sharing Christ’s love and caring attitude with St. John’s parish members who are no longer able to participate actively in church functions. The Samaritans are ambassadors of Christ and the parish family who reach out to help meet the needs of the aged and shut-ins at home and in nursing homes. Through the Samaritan ministry, these members know that they are loved and not forgotten.

Jim DeLanoy, Coordinator

Stephen Ministry – provides one-to-one support for people dealing with illness, bereavement, job crisis, marital crisis and many other things that arise unexpectedly in one’s life. Lay persons, through a training program, learn skills and develop their gifts for bringing Christ’s healing love to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of our Parish community. Stephen Ministers meet bi-monthly for continuing education and support. If you would like more information about having a Stephen Minister help you through a time of crisis, or you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, please contact the Church Office at (727) 531-6020.
